Digipak Analysis
-->
This is a digipac for the album Riot act by pearl jam, pearl
jam are recognized as a rock band, this can be shown /proven by the previous
album work, however the brand identity of pearl jam is not shown on the front
cover, but it is shown on the actual CD, this digipac is only 4 panes, the one
that we shall be using for our product will be 6 panes, the overall theme of
this digipac is meant to symbolize the band doing a live performance.
The first pane of this digipac or the title pane, a black background
with the title of the album in the center, the album title is sown to have been
scraped or possibly chiseled on, this could symbolize that this is underground music,
in other words music that is not what you would expect to hear from the rock genre,
therefore it is underground and away from popular culture, also on the 1st
pane there is 2 skeletons which look to be hiding behind what looks like prison
bars, this could possibly be referencing to the name of the album ‘riot act’
mainly due to both prison and ‘riot act’ having a connection.
The second pane of the digital contains the Cd of the album
‘riot act’, the writing on the 2nd pane is in block capitals and in
white, this is so it would have stood out more to the audience, also in the
background of the 2nd pane pictures of the band are shown to be
possibly recording or possibly performing the songs of the album, this sticks
with the common theme of rock
(instruments shown to symbolize genre)
The 3rd pane of the digipac consists of a dark
location which what looks like spotlights which are slightly covered up by a
smoke effect, all of these little feature suggest that the album is being
performed in a possible underground location.
The 4
th and final pane of the digital shows the track
list of the album, however this is different to the 2
nd panes
writing as the 4
th pane goes back to the style of writing which was
used in the 1
st pane (scraped or chiseled in), once again to symbolize
the underground music theory, this is backed up by the dark background with the
smoked out spotlights being used as the general background of the 4
th
pane.
For the task of the Digipak analysis one again I had to choose a Digipak
that was associated with our chosen genre, much like the advert analysis I had
to explain how the certain features and aspects had been used to sell the
product.
